SGP & SG Iron

SG Iron Pearlitic Rolls are structurally characterized by Nodular Graphite as against flack graphite by nodularzing in the normal cast iron, Indefinite Chill type material, but with the Graphite in Nodular form instead of flake and having alloyed with higher percentage of Carbon along with Nickel & Molybdenum. These rolls have a much higher Mechanical Strength and allow the use of iron rolls in applications which would represent too high a duty for a flake iron quality due to internal 'notch effect' of nodular graphite is relatively small. The rolls can be cast static or spun cast depending of the size of the working layer and the mill conditions.

Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron (S G Iron) or Ductile Iron is considered as one of the most versatile roll materials now a days. It is produced by a small proportion of magnesium added to the melt as nickel-magnesium or alternative alloy, or as pure magnesium. In S G Iron Roll, the free carbon takes the shape of spheroids or nodules, thereby eliminating the notch effect of flake graphite and improving upon the mechanical properties of the cast iron.
